Nutrition Facts based on 5 grams or one heaping teaspoon of concentrate.
*Sodium Caseinate is extracted from the pure amino acid salts in cow’s milk and is a good soluble emulsifier for oil and water (coffee). It is far less allergenic than Calcium Caseinate, which is the primary allergen in milk and source of histamines. Manufacturers and the Dairy Industry recognize this ingredient as Non-Dairy and many products labeled non-dairy contain it. Allergies to Sodium Caseinate are very rare, but they do exist. Be aware also, that some ingredients in this product are blended in multi-use facilities. Therefore, it is possible for this product to contain particles of whey or milk proteins, cocoa powder, various spices, flavorings, molasses, Cinnamon, soybean or other vegetable oils. This product is blended and packaged in accordance with industry standard GMP (good manufacturing practices) in a facility inspected by the USFDA.
Sammi’s Best™ brand products have NEVER used hydrogenated oils and have been listing transfats on labels since 1996, believing they were unhealthy, long before it was required by the FDA in 2007. The problem is labeling regulations allow products to contain hydrogenated oil, but claim 0g transfats on the label. A 0g claim can be made if the amount of trans-fat in the serving size is less than .5 gram. When the serving size is a tablespoon like in a creamer, it becomes very misleading. By comparison, there can still be over 7 g of hydrogenated fat per 8 oz. serving and still allow a 0g transfat claim. The same is true with “fat free” coffee creamers, they can (and some do) have nearly as much fat Half & Half and claim a total fat content of 0g on the label. Nonfat milk shows 0g because it has slightly less than 1 gram of fat per serving size, not because it has no fat. This product has no hydrogenated oil. We think consumers should be aware that products with hydrogenated oil and therefore trans-fats may show 0g on the label.
The Calcium in this creamer helps neutralize coffee acid. Non-hydrogenated Coconut Oil is the closest vegetable fat to the fat found in human milk and is a good source of essential medium chain fatty acids. Corn Syrup Solids is a healthy, natural time released complex carbohydrate used in infant formulas for years. When water is evaporated from pure corn syrup, you get corn syrup solids (no relation to High Fructose Corn Sweeteners which do not occur in nature). This product, while considered non-dairy, is not a Vegan product as explained below. A Vegan version can be ordered when available, but is not always in stock.
